First trip of 2013

We were itching to get out on the boat, having experienced the recent floods and the heavy snow. The forecast wasn’t looking good and we expected to awake to lots more snow, but we seemed to have escaped it and woke to bright sunshine. Although we expected the river to go into flood, due to the snow thawing and more rain on the way, we thought if we could get to the boat club we would be safe there. Cruising from Kegworth to Zouch in wonderful sunshine, it felt good to be out once again. When we approached Zouch lock there seemed to be a lot of water running from the weir stream and were surprised to find the water level on red already. As we left the lock we were suddenly breaking ice as we approached the bridge, more work for Ian to replace the blacking!! Safely moored at Soar Boating Club to celebrate Burns night with a meal of haggis and of course a wee dram of whiskey.

029Our usual scenery has changed dramatically due to the recent tree felling.
